Heart of the Community

Local artist Deborah Schran will display her fused glass jewelry series, "Curved Ladies", at the gallery of Empowered Women International. The non-profit group, located at 1307 King Street, Alexandria, helps refugee and immigrant and artists develop their craft, display their work and learn to market and sell their works. Officials at Empowered Women spotted Schran's work more than a year ago at a Bowie art festival and invited her to join the group. Group founder Marga Fripp said the "Curved Ladies" will be the group's official logo. Each piece of jewelry sold will benefit the group.
